Has anyone seen Priceless/Hors de prix or The Visitor? Audrey Tautou is so lovely and The Visitor seems to be getting pretty good reviews.
If I was willing to part with that much money, I'd be all over this site's 50s-style stuff.
I had a hella weird dream last night. (But are dreams ever normal? Do we dream about making sandwiches or folding laundry and just not remember because it's so boring?) I'd signed up to be an orientation leader for next year's freshmen and I was at a meeting for that with Ben, Justin, Kristin M, and a bunch of other random people. We all had carry-out bags from Wendy's. Justin and Kristin were having a conversation that involved him showing her a picture of a large quantity of dinner rolls on his phone or something. Then Ben started telling me about his first kiss, which was from this girl I went to elementary/middle/high school with, Vanessa. It got really weird because somehow I was able to watch it? Like, he was sitting in front of this old-fashioned dressing-room mirror with lights all around it, and in the mirror I could see her come up behind him and lean around his right shoulder and do it. The light was yellow-toned and kind of hazy, it was really weird. Then we were back in the meeting room and everything looked normal again. I've noticed that my dreams do have certain cinematic aspects to them, but flashbacks are a new thing. Or maybe it was more like going into a pensieve or something, because I didn't have a reflection in the mirror. But really, what a bizarre combination of people.

Bold the ones you've read, italicize the ones you intend to read, and do absolutely nothing to the rest.
( the list )
Yeah, so, four of those were required for school. I'd probably intend to read more of the list after more careful thought. Maybe this summer I'll tackle Gravity's Rainbow. I'd also really like to read The Feminine Mystique.

Okay, so it was funnier when gas stations first started doing this, but note that there are no prices whatsoever on this sign. The other side of the sign has the same thing. I'm guessing that it's around $3.50, because the last time I checked, it was over $3.90 in my hometown.

Top 5 me! Books, art, culture, music, fandom stuff, movies, television, pictures you want me to take, ANYTHING. Ask as many as you'd like. Be vague. Be specific. I don't care if it's mundane or off the wall, although the latter might be more fun.

I suppose I have a few days to catch up on, but for now, one question:
Is it better to fall into a false sense of security and proceed to fall on your ass or to constantly know that everything around you could crumble at any second?

So I'm trying to write this paper on connections between the Bible and My Name Is Asher Lev, and I'm trying to sort out all of the stuff about modesty and nude models and stuff. I Googled "Jewish modesty" and found this. Victorian is so over, zomg.
I'm getting very little work done. I'm rekindling my love for the Killers' Hot Fuss. I always loved All These Things That I've Done, but it seems particularly fitting right now. Plus I'd forgotten that the US promo video was directed by Anton Corbijn. Remember when we were all freaking out because of Brandon Flowers being kind of naked and wearing eyeliner and stuff? Man, those were the days. But now, now they're convinced that they're Bruce Springsteen and have weird facial hair and wives and stuff. I think. I have no idea of what they're doing. I kind of want to blast Mr. Brightside down the hall even though it's after midnight.

UGH SCREW YOU TORNADO REPORTS FOR CUTTING OFF THE END OF THE OFFICE. Oh well, Wikipedia has the synopsis up and the actual show will be online soon enough. BUT I CAN'T BELIEVE JIM WAS ABOUT TO BE THAT MUCH OF A DOUCHEBAG TO PAM ARGH. If he'd actually gone through with that, Pam would have totally been justified in throwing a few Dundies. The video camera was hilarious, though.

Tonight I had to go to a lecture by the dude who does that horrendous country song, All My Friends. That was my first nap in a long time.
My birthday's tomorrow. It seems that other people have a much better idea about what I'm doing for it than I am, as Rebekah asked me why on earth I would want to watch Requiem For A Dream on my birthday.

My love for Bongo Java is immense.
Two dreams: 1. I was on my flight again, but this time the entire plane was filled except for my row, in which I was the only person seated on my side. It wasn't awkward and I though it was pretty awesome that I got three seats to myself. Ben and Kristin's friend Austin was sitting towards the back of the plane and I thought it was weird that he was flying to Nashville to get to his college in Kentucky, so I went and chilled in the aisle and talked to him. 2. I was sick and Ben came with his guitar to serenade me with renditions of I Promise by Jeremy Warmsley and Asleep by the Smiths. He definitely does not actually know those songs and his singing voice was immensely better than it is in real life. I asked him if he would actually do that if I was sick, and he said that he would just visit me and pass on the serenading bit. Thinking about it, that would be intensely awkward if it were to happen in real life because, well, I'd be sick and drooling on myself or whatever.
My haircut seems to be quite popular, so that's nice.

11 hours of sleep = yes.
I spent nearly four hours talking to Weiqi this afternoon, which is probably more than we ever talked over four years of high school. It's odd how these things happen. It was good to have some solid conversation about writing/art, traveling, suburbia, the upper-middle class tendency to feel ashamed/embarrassed over having money, and, uh, how people can be identifiable by their hands. We came up with a list of purposes/uses for art, which is as follows:
1. Art as personal growth (exposure to new ideas). 2. Art as therapy/affirmation of previously existing emotions. 3. Art as projection of previously existing emotions or for absorption of outside emotions (escapism). 4. Art as a beautifier. 5. Art as a status symbol (or the collection of it). 6. Art as nostalgia/stimulation, used to bring back powerful emotions related to previous experiences. 7. Art as entertainment.
But on the whole, it is unquantifiable.

One little compliment can make you feel amazing. So give me a compliment, anything in the entire world.
Step TWO: Put this in your journal. Once you get some comments, tag that entry into your memories. When you are feeling down, just go to that entry and your friends will remind how great you are.

Yes, that is a lighter shaped like an elephant with a squirrel on its head. I'm going to give it to Brian for his birthday. I'm debating whether or not to pair it with the no smoking sign for the sake of irony. I'm not sure why the package of blotting papers needs to be printed with holographic stars. I guess we can't all be the walrus, so being the elephant will just have to do.
